My dear American,
For more than a decade the American troops have invaded Afghanistan and Pakistan. For more than a decade, Al-Qaeda has invaded our soils. We either have a choice to get killed by a drone or get killed by a bomb. We don’t know why our country has become the collateral damage between the Americans and the Afghanis. We are accused by you that we support Al-Qaeda. If we did, why have they been killing us for years? The bombs don’t go off in America. The bombs don’t go off in Afghanistan. They go off in our country. We are between a rock and a hard place. We don’t care for either of you, the Americans or the Al-Qaeda. For most of us, both are the same. The objective of both is to kill us. We wish that both of you go away. We wish that the dictators that you support go away. We wish that the few nickels and dimes, you give us in terms of IMF funds but that never reaches our nation anyway, goes away. We wish that the Swiss accounts, for our leaders, that you help fill go away. Please leave us alone. Please don’t give us any support. Please take away all the informants and translators that you plant within us. We don’t discount the problems that exist within our people and without outside meddling, we hope that we will insh’Allah be able to solve them. For years, your country has supported dictators in our country. Please stop supporting them.
People tell you that we hate your freedoms. We don’t hate your freedoms. We love your freedoms. We love your educational institutions. We dream of going to Cornell, Harvard and Stanford. We love your singers. We love your movies. We love your clothes. We love your people if it weren’t for your troops invading our country and droning us. Once, America was the land of hope and opportunity for us – now it is reduced to a country that hates Muslims and hates us. Osama Bin Laden is gone. We did not care for him. He did not do anything for us. He didn’t provide us clean water to drink or food for all of us to eat. If anything, because of him – you sit at our soils. You supported him in the war against Soviets and then you made him one of us. He was never one of us. We don’t care for his offspring. We care that we get electricity, that we get education and that we get jobs. Your media keeps on telling you that we are out to get you. The only thing we want is to manage ourselves and survive. Iqbal saw a dream and Jinnah fulfilled it but after that our country has been hijacked by corrupt leaders and sectarian strife. Please let us solve our problems; please let us live and please leave us alone.
